4 Apps for New Year’s Resolutions
Carrie Hall, CPT
Happy New Year (almost)! Fit Family Physical Therapy wants you to crush those “new year, new me” goals! To help you start strong, we’ve rounded up our favorite apps for new year’s resolutions! All of the apps for new year’s resolutions we recommend in this post are ones that our team of private physical therapists and certified personal trainers use in their daily life. We stand by these apps – paid or free – to improve our healthy lifestyles!
How to choose apps for new year’s resolutions?
Choosing lifestyle apps can be overwhelming – so many choices! Everyone’s looking for the next best thing, especially to start the new year on the right foot! Our tips for choosing apps for new year’s resolutions include:
- Keep it simple – apps with too many features or too much tracking can often be overwhelming and negatively impact your desire to stick to a plan! Sometimes less is actually more.
- Ask for recommendations – ask like-minded friends and family what they use to simplify their lives or reach their goals! It’s a good place to start and narrow down all of the choices.
- Don’t be afraid to pay – sometimes a couple dollars per month is just worth it! While we don’t recommend paying for all apps or getting sucked into endless subscription plans, evaluate if paying for an app may make your life easier and if it’s worth it to you! Sometimes paying for an app may keep you MORE consistent because you made an investment and don’t want it to go to waste.
Best app for meal prep and organization – AnyList
Is your goal for 2023 to eat healthier, spend less on eating out, save time making meals, or make your grocery shopping trips shorter? Anylist is here to save the day!
With Anylist, available on the App Store and Google Play Store, you can store your favorite online recipes with one click of a “Share” button. This will add the blog recipe to the app, removing the need to scroll through unnecessary details, ads, popups, and pictures, when you just want to make the meal! It also creates a checklist for ingredients and imports all the steps for the recipes. You can also easily scale recipes (because mental math can be tough!) with the click of a button. Create your own virtual recipe book with your favorite online recipes!
Another reason we love this app is that you can easily make grocery lists by checking items needed in each recipe. If you want to share your grocery list with a family member (which we recommend!), you will need to pay for the full version ($15/year). Your grocery trip time savings alone may be worth it! We think using AnyList app for new year’s resolution in the kitchen or organization department, is the best choice for 2023!
Best app for fitness (free) – Nike Training Club
Nike Training Club lives up to the hype for fitness new year’s resolutions! We think this is the best app for new year’s resolutions surrounding fitness!
You can use the app as a virtual class gym! Nike produces everything from trainer-led classes to live streams to five-minute burners! This app is great for all varieties of activity. They have workouts that include strength, yoga, dance, stretch and more! The filters within the app make it easy to find a workout that fits your activity type, equipment needs, and duration in a quick search.
There is something for everyone in this app and with Nike-level quality, your workout will fly by and you will be on your way to your 2023 fitness new year’s resolutions. We love that you can track your activity within the app or on a wearable smart device like an Apple Watch.
Nike produces high-quality workouts and fitness activities for all activity levels! As always, make sure you select a workout that matches your activity level and build from there. If you are having difficulties with any of the exercise or pain when you exercise, don’t hesitate to contact a friendly private physical therapist at Fit Family Physical Therapy for questions or concerns.
Injury or pain will set you back in accomplishing your new year’s resolutions! We always recommend starting your goals with a conversation with a trusted fitness or health professional to ensure your goals are realistic for your activity level and won’t do more harm than good.
Best app for outdoor activity – All Trails
Another great new year’s resolution – get outdoors more! All Trails is a great app for new year’s resolutions in the outdoors! This app will help you find hiking, mountain biking, or trail running trails all across the world!
We love All Trails because it includes pictures and tips from other outdoor adventurers to keep you safe, educated, and aware on each of the trails. The All Trails community also helps identify points of interest along any of the trails to keep your outdoor activities interesting! All trails is one of the best apps for new year’s resolutions!
Staying active is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Staying active does not always mean hitting the gym hard every day or pushing yourself to your fitness limits. Sometimes, it’s as simple as finding a nice biking trail or enjoying the peace and quiet of a new hiking spot! Keep your body moving in ways that feel good in 2023.
